The miniture earth experiment was really shocking!you wouldnt expect that it would turn out like that.

i really did like the video. the thing that really hit me was the part when it showed the bed and dresser and house over my head. it showed me that we do have more then a lot of other people.

I have heard the minature earth thing before in a poem that we read in English class in eighth grade. I remember it hitting me really hard then, and it still does. It makes me feel so greatful for what I have and makes me think twice when I wish I had more.

the video made me think about the percetnages that are really not fortunate
TKnothe4 said…
the minature earth video really made you realize the position that alot of people are in the world today and are less fortunate than alot of us. Also that sorting game was harder than it looked, because just because they may have a certain skin color they may be a different race. That's why i sucked at it.

That the U.S.self identification came so late was sort of a supprise. I had seen the miniature earth presentation before, but not the updated version.

It's pretty sad how they used to classify people into different racial categories just based on what they look like. I only got like 6 right :(

the sorting activity really made me realize how cool Ameriaca is in that many of us are mixed race and simply consider ourselves citizens of the U.S.

The human diversity quiz is not cool...don't do it you will get alot wrong...

i though thant the sorting game was hard but fun!

Both activities were very good. I did not do well on the sorting activity which was shocking, as I did poorly on it in psychology. Very eye opening.
zzeman4 said…
The sorting activity was very interesting and it mad me feel racist because i judge the people by there skin color. When it told us that they didnt clasify people by there skin color until 1957 or something.

The miniature Earth video makes me think about how people can go through tough times. When we are all complaining about hard times and recession, others don't even have shelter and food. There should be somehting on what would the world be if all resources were spread evenly.

Examples of Map Legends and Map Symbols (Plus Creative Tips and Project Ideas!)

Creative tips and projects for teaching students about legends (keys) on a map: 1. Create a scavenger hunt: Give students a map with a key and have them find different landmarks or features on the map. For example, you might ask them to find a park, a school, and a river. This is a fun way to get students engaged with maps and help them learn how to read legends. 2. Make your own map: Have students create their own maps of their school or neighborhood. They can include symbols for different features like buildings, parks, and roads. This is a great way to get students thinking about the different elements that go into making a map. 3. Use technology: There are many online tools that allow you to create custom maps with your own symbols and legends. Have students use these tools to create their own maps of their community or a fictional place. 4. Create a legend matching game: Create cards with different symbols from a map legend and have students match them to the correct definition. T...

Ripped Paper World Map Project - Middle or High School Geography

Earlier this week I presented my students with a challenge. Create a world map using construction paper, glue, and a sharpie. No scissors.  Students were not allowed to use any tools to cut out their continents. They had to tear their continents from construction paper. After their continents were ready, students were asked to label them and then glue them in place.  Each student's map needed a title, compass rose, key, symbols, Equator, and Prime Meridian, and all the continents and oceans had to be labeled. Most of my students had a blast creating their maps. Of course, a couple students were anxious; worried their continents wouldn't look nice. With some reassuring, they proceeded and did just fine.  This activity is a perfect back-to-school or sub-day activity. It required very little prep and materials. I let my students use any color construction paper they wanted as long as they selected two different colors.  The results were fantastic! Grab your copy of the ...
