Project Suggestion: Read and comment on the story. (Those of you who watched "Born on the Fourth of July" may want to do this assignment. Many of the topics dealt with in the film and subsequent discussion questions tie in well with the story above. In addition, those of you who completed projects dealing with photojournalism and the Vietnam War may also be interested in reading and commenting on this story.)

i was just looking at the slideshow and the pictures that went with the story....it was sad that after reading you found out that the soldier died of substance abuse....in the world today it seems that if something is wrong that that one person did they go and make them not a hero or icon....its wrong its not like nobody has done anything wrong in their life so people should lighten up a little bit about their histories.... what he did was amazing...im not saying that i glorify wrongdoings but he had some problems and thats how he dealt with his problems

jaleesawh - What would you say to the photojournalist who took the iconic pictures of this man....he seems to be at least partially blaming himself for contributing to this man's suffering.

By the way, did you get a chance to look at Time Magazine a couple weeks back? If not, I'll post the link under this post. (There is a lengthy article dealing with the long-term psychological ramifications of war on veterans and their families.)
jaleesewh - So four or five? I would like you to focus on projects relating directly to history for your past two or three projects. I have posted many project suggestions on the blog within the past two days.

Let me know if you need help.

well it seems the story from this talks about a soldiers life in the war and the effects it had on him...for example he help many people in the war but at the age of 31 the dude diede of an overdose probably because the effects of the war was too much for you.
drake - What would you say to the photojournalist who at least in part, blames himself for the death of this soldier?

id tell him that it wasnt his fault it was this war that tears everyone apart and kills...in which the people who started it probably like to see....
drake - This satisfies a project requirement.

i read the story about the soldier and it was sad that he couldn't be helped. i am going to go to the library after school today to get the book "Lies My Teacher Told Me" if you have it let me know or if you know where i could get it. that would be greatly appreciated Thanks
wegner - I'm sure your public library would have a copy. If not, they could get it for you.
