Social Studies 400 (Create a Brochure)

Your topic is Alt-Ed. Your task is to create a brochure informing incoming freshmen, parents, and other interested parties about RVHS- Alt-Ed.

Working in teams of four, determine who will be in charge of the following components of the brochure:


  • Lists
  • Paragraphs
  • Charts and Graphs
  • Pictures and captions
  • Quotes

Before drafting your brochures:

Ask, who is my audience?

What questions might they have regarding Alt-Ed?

How might I answer these questions? (Paragraphs, cartoons, quotes, charts)

What other information might you highlight in the brochure?

Should you include contact information, links to resources, etc.?

Now, work together and decide the layout/ organization/design of your brochure. You will be given large sheets of paper to sketch your drafts.

Helpful tips:

All headings and titles should be similar in font and style. Choose a font that is easy to read. Decorative fonts are difficult to read. Chose a size that is easy to read.

You may either make a comic strip based on a specific scene from the book we are reading or you may make a comic strip where your characters comment on a chapter or scene from the book.

Your comic strip should include a minimum of four panels. Each panel should have a caption related to the scene. Your comic must be organized and understandable to the reader. There must be a clear beginning, middle, and end.

Meet the candidates:
How were these 15 final candidates selected?
List the fifteen finalists.

Everyone will select a candidate (by drawing a name out of a hat) and create a poster or powerpoint/prezi about this person’s contributions to United States history. Your goal is to persuade your peers to vote for your candidate. 

Criteria:

If you create a PowerPoint or prezi, you need a minimum of six slides/frames. Each slide must contain a minimum of two facts. You must also include a minimum of three pictures in your poster/PowerPoint/prezi. (Posters need to include 12 facts and three pictures.)

As a class, we will vote for the most deserving candidate. The winner (poster/powerpoint/prezi) will win a prize! (A full-sized candy bar or a pack of gum!)
